01How Instagram serves video

Instagram's image CDN rejects requests that arrive without the right referrer, which is why previews break on most downloader sites. We proxy images through our own server so they always render — and so Instagram never learns anything about you.

- Private accounts cannot be downloaded
- If you have to be logged in and approved to see a post, an anonymous request cannot fetch it. Any site claiming otherwise is either asking for your password or lying.
- Stories expire in 24 hours
- Once a Story is gone from the app it is gone from the CDN as well. There is no archive to reach.
- Copy the link from the Share menu
- The address bar on the mobile web app sometimes carries a session fragment that resolves to the profile rather than the post. Share → Copy link always gives the clean permalink.

Does this work for Instagram Stories?
Public Stories that are still live, yes. Once the 24-hour window closes, the file no longer exists to fetch.
